Reaching the poor: lessons from the Chilean housing experience

In recent years, the Chilean government has been refining the housing support offered to households. This paper discusses the main strengths and weaknesses of this system, particularly its ability to satisfy the needs of low-income households. After a description of the system including effectiveness and targeting issues, the authors discuss future challenges for the Chilean housing system including the quality and flexibility of support.
