Stressful environments and their effects on quality ot life in Third World cities

Solvig Ekblad

The Section of Stress Research, WHO Psyohosocial Centre, Dept. of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute, Box 220, S-171 77 Stockholm, Sweden; Fax: (46) 8 344143.

Stressful environments and their effects on quality ot life in Third World cities outlines the linkages between environment related stress and ill-health and the many stressors that cause or contribute to ill-health. The author identifies buffering factors that help people cope with stress and considers how to enhance these buffers and in so-doing integrate a concern for people's quality of life within more conventional goals of city planning, environmental services and health care provision.
