Street children in Egypt: from the home to the street to inappropriate corrective institutionsNGO The Association for the Development and Enhancement of Low-income Women in Egypt. This paper draws on interviews with children on the street, in corrective institutions and in low-income households to describe the pressures that eject them from homes, and the abuse and exploitation they have suffered at the hands of the police, the corrective institutions and, often, their own families. It also describes the inappropriate laws and public attitudes that underlie such problems.
